Tech Tip - Great On-Line Backup Service for PC or Servers

Fellow CEO'ers:

This belongs in a new topic -- Tech Tips.

I found a very good on-line computer backup solution that is affordable. We've been trying to find a service that we could use to remotely backup our important files. So far any on-line solution we saw was typically between $50 and $500/month for the sizes we needed backed up (10GB, 50GB, 100GB, etc.) And we're tired of doing backup tapes.

The "Carbonite" service (www.Carbonite.com) is only $49.95 per YEAR and they offer an "unlimited" amount of space for that fee. I signed up recently and backed up about 20 Gigabytes from our server and it was very successful. I noticed them on a recent press release (they've now raised $47MM).

I recommend it. There is a good review on www.pcmag.com (search for "Carbonite review") if you want to read more.

You should probably install it on your server, and might have to get a different account if you want your Personal PC backed up. It may take a day or two the first time, then minutes each day thereafter just to backup the changes. You could even restore a single file if needed one day if it gets deleted.

This gets one more thing off my list of worries.

See you all soon!

Outsourcing: Quickbooks Hosting?

I need inexpensive hosting for Quickbooks. We looked into this before and finally just bought a server, bought Microsoft's server software and bought Quickbooks and now we host this ourselves. But, hosting a server is not our expertise and I would prefer to outsource this again. Any suggestions?

Already we outsource our bookkeeping and all of the input to the quickbook server comes from Manila, Philippines (www.shiftresources.com) but now I want to outsource the server itself.
